The UN’s mission to Afghanistan released its yearly human rights report, its first since the Taliban seized power last year.

The treatment of women – particularly girls – is a key feature.

Teenage girls have been banned from school for more than 300 days, despite pledges from the government that they will soon be allowed back in class.

This is a major obstacle to the resumption of foreign aid.

UNSG’s special representative Ramiz Alakbarov told local media in early July that he wants to see girls allowed back to school.

The report also covers punishment for moral crimes, killings of previous government security force members and alleged abuses by Taliban intelligence services.
