What researchers are calling one of the largest climate-change experiments on the planet is underway in Minnesota.
Since 2016, U-S government researchers funded by the Department of Energy have been simulating global warming and recording the results, in what is called the SPRUCE project (an acronym for Spruce and Peatland Responses
Under Changing Environments).
The goal is to understand how climate change will affect Minnesota’s northern forest peatlands, massive wetlands that provide a habitat to spruce and tamarack trees, birds, flowers and other wildlife.
