The new Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani intends to raise the issue of migration at a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels.
It follows criticism against Italy from France has allowed a ship carrying more than 200 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean to dock at the port of Toulon after it was turned away from Italy.
Separately, Paris has called for an emergency EU meeting on migration to discuss the topic.
