It has been two years since the state of Assam in India’s northeast released a list of citizens living there.

The aim was to crackdown on migration from Bangladesh but now many are questioning its accuracy.

Many who earlier supported the list are now opposing it and some are calling for the verification of names on the list.

The list has left out 1.9 million names.

“They must go back where they came from,” is the demand. This is not simple. These people consider themselves Indian, not Bangladeshi. In fact, Bangladesh does not accept them as citizens. This means that several million people are at risk of becoming stateless.” Human Rights Watch said.
