Following the death of a Palestinian American allegedly beaten by Israeli settlers, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has called for a full investigation. Saif Mussallet, an American citizen, reportedly died after settlers in the occupied West Bank assaulted him and obstructed efforts to get him medical care.
The incident comes as Israeli military operations continue in the West Bank. Early Wednesday, Israeli forces raided the town of Idhna, west of Hebron, sealing off the main street and sparking clashes with residents. Troops fired live ammunition, tear gas, and sound grenades. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg; the Palestinian Red Crescent provided emergency aid before transporting him to a hospital.
Meanwhile, ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas are ongoing in Doha. Qatar confirmed on Tuesday that talks remain active, with both sides still present in the Qatari capital. U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday the discussions were “going pretty well” and suggested an announcement could be expected “fairly soon.” The proposed American plan includes a 60-day truce, a phased release of hostages, Israeli troop withdrawals from parts of Gaza, and further talks aimed at ending the war.
However, progress remains uncertain. Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week of deliberately stalling negotiations, as the talks entered their second week.
