Flooding in China’s southwestern province of Guizhou has displaced more than 80,000 people, according to state media reports on Wednesday. The deluge comes amid a summer of extreme weather across the country, with searing heat waves gripping vast regions even as relentless rainstorms batter others.

Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the hardest-hit areas in two counties of Guizhou, where authorities have raised the flood control alert to its highest level.
