Sudan Schooling Under Siege

Nearly 500 days Lost and long Closures Since the Conflict Began in April 2023, millions of children in Sudan have missed almost 500 days of in-person learning, constituting one of the world’s longest school closures since modern records and surpassing the worst shutdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic, Save the Children reports. More than 1,000 days of fighting have disrupted education nationwide, destroyed school infrastructure, displaced families, and shattered communities.
Remote learning has been largely infeasible for most Sudanese children owing to infrastructure collapse and displacement, deepening a generational learning deficit with long-term humanitarian and development consequences.
