Heavy rain and flash floods are forecast in Sudan until the middle of this week, with parts of the country having already been hit.
Villages in the southeast near the major city of Kassala and close to the border of Eritrea are drying out after recent floods.
The Gash River had swollen, following increased rainfall in neighbouring Eritrea.
Big rain inundates Sudan’s flat eastern delta almost every year, but it normally only happens later in the summer, which runs until the end of August.
Above-normal rainfall for most of the Greater Horn of Africa is forecast this summer, potentially a disaster for Sudan’s already flood-prone areas.
