A 72-hour ceasefire extension agreed on Thursday by Sudan’s Army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces is set to expire.
Both sides accused the other of violating the ceasefire on FRI.
Trilateral Mechanism (the African Union, IGAD, and UN) and the Quad (KSA, UAE, UK, and USA) on Sudan, welcomed the announcement and have called for the full implementation of the ceasefire and a more durable cessation.
On Wednesday: Sudan’s Army head Burhan agreed to send an army representative to Juba to negotiate the IGAD peace initiative.
RSF hasn’t yet confirmed it would be sending a representative.
The Undersecretary of the Sudanese FM was due to visit Arab countries to discuss the situation in the country.
The UN Envoy for Sudan Volker Perthes told Aljazeera that countries in the region were invited to host Al- Burhan and Hemedti to mediate between them.
Pethes added to Aljazeera that the way out now from the crisis in Sudan is to reach a truce and a clear mechanism to monitor its implementation.
Perthes warned that if any party in Sudan refuses to respond to dialogue, it will be isolated internationally even if it wins the conflict.
