Opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been indicted and released on bail Monday under judicial supervision as he faces a rape accusation. He’s at his home but has had to hand over his passport and needs to report to the police weekly.

Movement for the Defence of Democracy, a coalition of opposition parties and civil society groups have called for three days of protests starting from Monday.

This is the worst political unrest for years in a country widely seen as one of the most stable in West Africa. Regional body ECOWAS on Saturday urged Senegal’s government to act to ‘ease tensions and guarantee the freedom to demonstrate peacefully.
