The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces’ siege of the city of El Fasher is expected to persist for the foreseeable future. The United Nations has reported that the recent offensive launched by the RSF in and around North Darfur has led to a humanitarian crisis, with an estimated 400,000 to 450,000 people being displaced. These civilians have been forced to seek refuge in towns such as Tawila, Jebel Marra, and other areas in the region. The scale of this displacement highlights the growing instability in the area, as the RSF’s advances continue to exacerbate the dire situation for both local populations and humanitarian efforts on the ground. The ongoing siege, coupled with the relentless military action, signals that the conflict in Darfur is far from resolution, with the prospect of further displacement and suffering in the months to come.
