The Myanmar military junta has told Aljazeera that it will repatriate about 1,000 Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh
during the time it announced a crackdown on opponents to the military leadership, but no timeline has been given.

More than 100 protestors were killed after the military junta took power from the elected civilian government in 2021.

The plan to repatriate Rohingya has been met with skepticism from the community and rights groups.

Last week, a delegation from Myanmar authorities visited the refugee camp in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar to interview potential
candidates for their return as early as next month.
