Last week the Inter-American Press Association called on Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to halt a days-long series of verbal attacks on Mexican journalist Carlos Loret de Mola.

But the President has not stopped, he called a newspaper “the real mafia” after they published an article about his family.

López Obrador has published charts showing how much Loret allegedly earns and has called him and others who publish critical articles “thugs, mercenaries, sellouts.”

Press organizations call these actions worrisome in a country where journalists need more government protection, already 5 journalists have been killed in 2022.
