Authorities in Pakistan have urged people to stay indoors amid an ongoing heatwave. In recent days, temperatures have reached record highs, particularly in the south. Weather experts predict conditions will worsen.
As one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan is witnessing a sharp rise in extreme weather events.
The frequency of heatwaves has increased fivefold over the past three decades.
This crisis is further exacerbated by rapid urbanisation and inadequate infrastructure. A similar heatwave in June 2024 claimed more than 560 lives, the majority in the southern province of Sindh.
