Nationwide Strikes Mark Israel’s Growing Crisis

Israel’s Foreign Ministry held its weekly briefing amid rising diplomatic friction. On Monday, Israel revoked visas for Australian representatives to the Palestinian Authority, retaliating against Australia’s recent recognition of a “Palestinian state” and its refusal to grant visas to several Israeli officials, including former minister Ayelet Shaked and Knesset committee chair Simcha Rotman.
Meanwhile, at least half a million Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening, demanding a swift deal to secure the release of captives held in Gaza—the largest demonstration since late 2024. A nationwide strike further called for the hostages’ return and an end to the war. Protesters in Jerusalem blocked the key highway linking the city with Tel Aviv, while dozens were arrested during the unrest.
Businesses and universities largely permitted staff to join the protests, though no formal shutdown was declared.
In a related development, Israeli forces announced on Saturday plans to provide tents and shelter equipment to Gaza residents starting Sunday, in preparation for their relocation to the southern strip.
