Lebanon is Facing Diplomatic Pressure
Arcive/Al Jazeera.
There has been an escalation in Israeli strikes in areas north of the Litani River. The attacks that targeted buildings across
southern Lebanon caused widespread damage and displaced hundreds of people.
Lebanon’s government has been insisting on the return of residents to border villages from which they were displaced during the 2024 war. Not only have they not returned, but Israel also targets any attempt at reconstruction.
Lebanon says their return and reconstruction of destroyed homes are the foundation upon which negotiations must be built. Instead, Israeli strikes as of late is causing more displacement kilometers from the border.
Lebanon is facing diplomatic pressure to agree to direct talks with Israel under US mediation. The ceasefire monitoring committee hasn’t met, and no date has been set for a new round that is raising concern.
