A judge in Israel’s High court has set a Thursday deadline for 4 Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of Occupied East Jerusalem facing eviction to reach an agreement with the Israeli settlers who are trying to take over their homes. If an agreement isn’t reached, the judge will rule whether the Palestinian families have the right to appeal the District Court’s ruling to evict them.

On Tuesday night dozens of Palestinians demonstrating against the eviction clashed with Israeli police. The commander of Hamas’s military wing issued a rare direct statement on Tuesday, warning Israel that it would pay a “heavy price” if it did not cease the evictions in Sheikh Jarrah.  The 4 families, along with 8 others, have been facing eviction orders from Israeli courts who ruled the Palestinians should evacuate their homes to a settler organisation called ” Nachlat Shiva’a” who for years have claimed Jewish ownership of the land pre-1948.
