At 17:30 Jerusalem time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet to discuss a second phase of the ceasefire with Hamas and operational details for the opening of the Rafah crossing, announced at a US-led ceremony in Davos.
US CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper arrived in Israel on Saturday, and reported discussions prioritised the prospect of strikes on Iran. US envoys Jared Kushner and Michael Wittkopf met Netanyahu on Saturday evening to focus on returning the body of the last captive held by Hamas and the Rafah opening.
Reuters reported on Friday that Israeli plans may restrict entries into Gaza through Rafah to ensure more people leave than enter, underscoring Israeli security-driven limits on humanitarian mobility.
