U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met on Tuesday with the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah – just a day after talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Blinken called again for de-escalation by both sides, and to seek a way towards a two-state solution.
There’s been a rise in violence in the run-up to Blinken’s arrival in the area on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, Blinken urged Israelis and Palestinians to take immediate steps to calm high tensions in the region, during his visit to Israel.
Blinken stressed that a two-state solution remains the best way to achieve this.
Netanyahu on Sunday promised to wield a “heavy hand” against assailants, stressing that he is prepared to pursue a hard-line policy in reaction to the attacks.
