INDONESIA/FARMS FLOOD

Published on: 23 February, 2021

Pati regency in Central Java has experienced floods for the past week or so, with no signs of the waters receding. But as the disaster continues, the farmers there say the floods are worse than usual. Around 7,000 hectares of farmland is flooded and around $900,000 worth of crops have been destroyed.

Farmers and environmental groups say the floods are getting worse because of land degradation. River normalisation projects have been delayed. They also blame a cement factory.
