The International Court of Justice (ICJ), located in The Hague, commences public hearings from 28th April to 2nd May. These hearings are being held in response to a request from the United Nations for an advisory opinion regarding the ‘Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, Other International Organisations, and Third States in and concerning the Occupied Palestinian Territory’.
As part of the proceedings, the Court has already received written submissions from a range of states and international organisations.
Once both the written and oral proceedings are concluded, the Court will retire to deliberate on the matter. Subsequently, it will deliver its advisory opinion in an open court session. It is important to note that the Court’s opinions are advisory in nature, meaning they are not legally binding.
