Flooding due to a storm overnight complicated efforts to seek survivors from a weekend earthquake in Haiti that killed more than 1,400 people and provide aid and relief to hundreds of thousands left struggling for food, water, or shelter.

Around 1.2 million people, including 540,000 children, have been impacted by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake which struck southwestern Haiti on Saturday.

Fears of mudslides continue.

Haiti is prone to mudslides due to the topography of the island -the country is home to mountains more than 10,000 feet tall – and years of deforestation that have created an ecological disaster.
