Authorities in Greece have imposed mandatory work breaks in regions expecting temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius over the coming days. Heatwaves are becoming more frequent, and summers in Greece are growing longer and hotter.
Faced with these escalating temperatures, people, businesses, and farmers are adapting in various ways. Many workers are shifting hours to cooler parts of the day or night, while companies are investing in cooling technologies and adjusting production schedules to mitigate heat-related risks. Farmers are experimenting with drought-resistant crops and improved irrigation methods to safeguard their livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the government is developing long-term plans to cope with the intensifying climate challenges, including infrastructure upgrades, early warning systems, and public awareness campaigns. As Greece confronts these changes, balancing economic activity with health and safety remains a pressing priority.
