India’s BJP-led government has expelled hundreds of ethnic Bengali Muslims—many Indian citizens—to Bangladesh without due process, claiming they are illegal immigrants.
Human Rights Watch and the UN have condemned the move as discriminatory and in violation of international law.
Victims report coercion, abuse, and lack of legal recourse, with some forced to cross the border at gunpoint.
The expulsions, including Rohingya refugees, reflect a broader anti-Muslim agenda and undermine India’s human rights obligations and asylum legacy.
