The death toll from flooding in East Africa continues to climb.

In Kenya, the Red Cross reports at least 61 fatalities, while Somalia’s disaster management agency say that over 50 people have died, with nearly 700,000 displaced.

Ethiopia has recorded over 30 deaths.

More rains and flooding are predicted in coming days.

International Rescue Committee says the weather is affecting over 1.77 million people many of whom have lost their homes, or their livestock and crops.

The heavy rains follow four years of drought in Somalia, which brought the country to the brink of famine. Experts link the increased rainfall and floods to the El Nino weather phenomenon.
