At least 74 people have been killed in Israeli air raids across Gaza since dawn on Wednesday, according to medical sources in hospitals across the Strip. Nineteen of the dead were reported in Gaza City and the northern governorates. Eight others were killed while waiting for aid from the Gaza Health Foundation (GHF) in northern Rafah, allegedly by Israeli fire.

GHF suspended its operations in central Gaza on Tuesday, leaving only a single functioning aid distribution point in the overcrowded Saudi district. More than two million Palestinians, many facing acute hunger, now rely on this lone site.

Israeli strikes have escalated in northern Gaza, hitting a historic market and other civilian areas. Shortly after the bombings, drones and quadcopters reportedly targeted any moving objects in the vicinity.

A survey by Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) found that mortality rates among children in Gaza have increased fivefold since the war began in October 2023. For children under five, the death rate has surged tenfold.

In a statement to Al Jazeera on Wednesday, senior Hamas official Taher al-Nunu said the group had agreed to release 10 prisoners in an effort to facilitate the flow of aid and halt Israeli attacks.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned on Wednesday that Israeli plans for mass displacement could create what it described as a “massive de facto concentration camp” along the Egyptian border.
