In the U.S.  More than 2,000 residents in northern California have been forced from their homes by a massive wildfire.

The McKinney fire is the biggest in the state this year – and it has forced the governor to declare an emergency.
In Europe, firefighters struggled to contain a blaze in the Portuguese municipality of Mafra, about 33km south of Lisbon.

Authorities blocked several roads and evacuated a care home.

Many locals left their homes out of fear.

Fires have broken out across Germany, exacerbated by the extremely hot weather seen on the continent in recent weeks.
