President Biden has laid out a plan to build more wind -farms off the U.S. east coast, and New York is pledging to get 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, one of the most ambitious clean energy plans in the country.

Still, many technical hurdles remain to be tackled to get the program off the ground. Al Jazeera has discovered that in the case of NYC, reliance on fossil fuels is expected to increase in the coming year due to the closure of the Indian Point nuclear facility in April. The percentage of the city’s energy generated by fossil fuels could increase by as much as 90% until wind -farms come online years in the future.
