Clampdown in the Old City

Pre-dawn on Tuesday, Israeli forces launched a sweeping raid in the West Bank city of Nablus, tightening their grip on the historic old city district. Military vehicles poured into the area, surrounding buildings and enforcing a lockdown. Loudspeakers warned residents to remain indoors as soldiers began searching homes.
The operation, still ongoing, has focused on what the military calls a “terror hotbed”—language frequently used to justify intensifying crackdowns in densely populated Palestinian neighbourhoods. Local reports describe dozens of vehicles stationed in the city centre, blocking movement and heightening fear among civilians already accustomed to cycles of incursion.
With attention fixed on Gaza, such raids in the West Bank continue largely in the background. Yet they form part of a broader campaign that shows no signs of restraint.
