Cameroon/ Soldiers in court

Published on: 21 January, 2021

Three soldiers accused of murdering 13 people, including 10 children, in western Cameroon are due back in court. The killings happened in February 2020 in the Northwest region, one of two English-speaking regions gripped by a separatist conflict. The military had initially denied any role in the massacre, but international pressure forced the presidency to demand an investigation. The soldiers were charged in DEC. Rights groups claim both the military and separatist fighters have committed atrocities since the separatist conflict began in 2017. The UN says more than 3,000 people have died.
