Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and former President of Ireland Mary Robinson are visiting political leaders as well as society representatives in Israel and Palestine in their role as ‘Elders’ – an independent group of global leaders working together for peace, justice, and human rights.
The aim of their visit is to support a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the principle of two states, and explore how
progress can be made.
Ban Ki-Moon and Mary Robinson’s trip ends in Tel Aviv on Thursday.
At least five Palestinians have been killed, including a 15-year-old, and more than 60 wounded on Monday as a result of an Israeli raid on Jenin Refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli media were reporting that 5 soldiers were also injured and had to be flown out by helicopter.
An Israeli helicopter has also bombed a target in the camp.
It’s the first air strike there in nearly 20 years.
