Argentina’s government is set to release the 2024 first-half poverty rate figures, with a recent independent study estimating the poverty rate at 57%, the highest in over 20 years, affecting 27 million Argentines.

Soaring inflation, which reached 236.7% in the 12 months through August—the highest rate globally—has driven the sharp rise in poverty.

As basic costs continue to surge, a kilogram of potatoes now costs $1.33, according to INDEC, marking a 40% increase from just a month ago, with similar spikes in prices for meat, dairy, and household items like soap.
