Palestinians in Gaza have once again been killed while attempting to reach desperately needed humanitarian aid.
There are currently only two functioning distribution centres operating across the Strip, intended to serve more than two million people.
The World Food Programme (WFP) reported that a crowd of starving people overwhelmed one of its warehouses in central Gaza, desperate to find food. Two people died in the chaos. A UN official described the unfolding situation as “an assault on their human dignity.”
At least 63 people were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza on Wednesday, according to the territory’s health ministry.
Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, stated that plans are underway to finalise a proposal that may form the basis for a potential deal between Israel and Hamas. He added that an agreement could be reached very soon.
Of Gaza’s 38 hospitals, 22 are now out of service, according to the Health Ministry. The facilities that remain operational face a “catastrophic” shortage of medical supplies.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached its worst stage yet, with Israeli authorities having undermined the agency’s ability to deliver genuine humanitarian aid.
Gaza’s Government Media Office reported that the number of journalists killed since October 2023 has risen to 221.
