Syria’s civil war, which ravaged the country for over a decade, left behind a trail of destruction that impacted countless cultural and religious sites, including one of the world’s oldest and most significant synagogues.

Located in a Damascus suburb, this sacred site once served as a vibrant hub for Jewish worship and community, drawing individuals from across the region. Today, however, it stands partially destroyed, a somber reminder of the violent conflict that has torn apart the fabric of Syria’s diverse heritage.
