Children had been abused in New Zealand

Published on: 24 July, 2024

New Zealand’s Royal Commission investigating abuse in care institutions will release its final report on Wed

An interim report in December 2020 said as many as 256,000 children had been abused between 1950 and 2019 in state and faith-based institutions.

The report covers accounts of survivors’ suffering in state and faith-based care between 1950 and 1999 and is expected to indict successive governments for allegedly enabling that abuse.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will make a formal public apology at Parliament on November 12th to those who survived the abuse.
