July 11th marks 29 years since the genocide in Srebrenica, the worst crime committed on European soil since the holocaust.
In July 1995, Serbian forces killed over 8000 Muslim men and boys, while around 20,000 civilians were forced to flee the area.
On the 29th anniversary, the remains of 14 Srebrenica victims will be buried at the Memorial Centre in Potocari.
So far, 6,751 victims of genocide have been buried there, and some 250 more outside the complex.
July 11th has been declared by the UN as an annual day of remembrance for victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide.
Germany and Rwanda’s proposal passed in May despite furious lobbying by Serbia against the resolution.
84 member states voted in favour of creating an “International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica”.
Regardless of that, the day of remembrance of Srebrenica genocide is once again not being marked throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
