Amnesty on the right to protest
Amnesty International releases a comprehensive report on the state of the right to protest across Europe on July 9th.
This review examines 21 countries and reveals a pattern of attacks and restrictions that violate the right of peaceful assembly and create a repressive and risk-ridden environment for peaceful protest.
The report finds that the right of peaceful assembly is coming under attack, as states increasingly delegitimize, stigmatize and crack down on protesters.
This comes at a time when people across Europe are taking to the streets to show solidarity, seek justice and demand accountability (including ongoing mobilizations focused on climate justice and the rights of Palestinians).
