Hundreds of political prisoners are due to be released under an amnesty law adopted by the country’s national assembly March 6th.

Detainees include opposition leader Ousmane Sonko and his chosen election candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

There were hopes they would be freed ahead of Ramadan 7th.
