The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has sent invites to Sudan’s army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to meet Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), in Djibouti on Thursday.
Previously, attempts for the meeting stalled after the warring parties failed to meet demands.
Burhan asked for a ceasefire and withdrawal of the RSF forces from the capital, while Hemedti demanded that Burhan attends the meeting as SAF commander and not as head of state.
Sudan’s conflict began in April when the two generals fell out – pitting the national army against the paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The fighting has since displaced over Seven million people from their homes.
