EU justice and home affairs ministers meet in Brussels to discuss migration and ongoing plans to update EU asylum laws.
In June, EU leaders approved changes to asylum policy at a meeting in Spain.
The European Commission (the EU’s executive arm) has introduced an amendment to the migration policy – a so called “crisis regulation”.
If adopted, the amendment would allow for more flexibility if Europe were to face a large surge in migrant and refugee arrivals, such as the 2015 migration crisis.
