International aid has started to arrive from the United Nations, Europe, Russia and Middle Eastern countries.

The World Health Organization has sent a shipment of supplies, which includes medicines and body bags.

The UN humanitarian affairs office has launched an appeal for US$71-million dollars.

It’s also called for coordination between Libya’s two rival administrations – the internationally recognised government in Tripoli, and
the one based in the disaster-hit east.

The floods have displaced more than 38,000 people, according to the U.N.’s International Organization for Migration, and several thousand others were forced to leave their homes in other eastern towns, it said.

Bridges and other basic infrastructure have also been wiped out, especially buildings near the Wadi Derna River.
