Tensions often escalate at Al Aqsa Mosque Compound during Ramadan with Hamas warning it will react to any possible violations during the holy month.

Israel on Tuesday announced that it intends to prevent Palestinians aged under 55 from entering Al Aqsa Mosque Compounduring Ramadan.

Thousands of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are planning an open-ended hunger strike, ahead of the first day of fasting for Ramadan.

The strike is another escalation in a series of steps prisoners have started a month ago to protest Israeli measures and demand freedom.

The strike, some say, is not only a message to Israel but also to Palestinian factions to fight for prisoners’ release.

There are 4,780 Palestinian prisoners in 23 Israeli prisons and detention centers, 915 of them are detained without charges and 553 are sentenced to life.
