In the occupied land, the Associated Press reported that the Catholic Latin Patriarch Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the top Catholic clergyman in the Holy Land condemned on Monday the police beating of mourners carrying the casket of Shireen Abu Akleh, accusing the authorities of violating human rights and disrespecting the church.

International condemnation and calls for justice continue after veteran Aljazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was assassinated by Israeli forces last Wednesday.

“is a severe violation of international norms and regulations, including the fundamental human right of freedom of religion, which must be observed also in a public space,” Pizzaballa told reporters.

Abu Akleh was assassinated in Jenin in the West Bank.

She was shot in the head even though she was visibly identifiable as a journalist.
