While Somalia has contributed among the least to climate change, its most vulnerable population is paying a high price.
The WFP and FAO have warned that Somalia’s unfolding humanitarian crisis will need more than humanitarian relief as the country edges closer to famine if more help that has been requested is not provided.
“The situation is grave and is deteriorating rapidly,” Adam Abdelmoula, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Somalia said in March.
In February the World Food Programme said that 13 million people across the Horn of Africa face hunger.
The awaited April to May seasonal rains might not help Somali families and communities recover.
