West Kowloon Magistrates Court: Trial starts for award-winning journalist Bao Choy who is facing charges related to her role in helping investigate alleged police mishandling of a violent mob attack on train passengers in Yuen Long on July 21, 2019. The case has intensified concerns over shrinking press freedom, as authorities continue to crackdown on prominent figures linked to last year’s anti-government protest movement.

Bao Choy, an employee of the public broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong, was arrested in November in connection with data on vehicle
registrations she used for an investigative documentary.

Activist Joshua Wong is in court for a second day, with a sentence possible on either Wednesday or Thursday. Wong pleaded guilty to taking part in an unauthorised assembly and violating an anti-mask law. It’s the third case that Wong has been charged with and he’s already serving a 13.5-month sentence for another protest-related offense.
