2020 Climate Change

Published on: 28 December, 2020

The ten worst disasters caused by climate change cost at least $140 billion in 2020, according to a report put together by relief organisation Christan Aid.

The estimates in the report are based only on insured losses meaning the true financial costs are likely to be higher.

In the U.S. alone, a record-breaking hurricane and record-breaking fire season cost more than $60B in damages.

Floods in China and India that unfolded over months were estimated to cost $32B and $10B respectively, while two extra-tropical cyclones that hit Europe had a combined cost of nearly $6B.
