Bolivia has requested assistance from France, Brazil, Venezuela and Chile to extinguish the forest fires that for weeks have been devastating forests and pastures, aggravated by an intense drought.

The fire has forced the suspension of school, work and flight delays due to high air pollution in several cities.

President Luis Arce called an emergency meeting with his cabinet to assess the situation.

Experts warn, more than six million animals have been killed by the fires in Bolivia in the last months – Venezuela responded by sending 30 firefighters.
