Yemen faces a deepening humanitarian crisis as political stability erodes, courtesy of renewed conflicts and international aid restrictions. UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg, briefing the Security Council, indicated that around 18 million Yemenis are projected to experience acute food insecurity soon. The ongoing conflicts, particularly in the southern regions, hint at escalating tensions, with the Southern Transitional Council and Saudi-backed forces vying for control.

With economic instability soaring, exacerbated by unpaid salaries and rising prices, the UN warns of increased risks to public health and safety. Currently, over 450 medical facilities have shuttered, and efforts to combat vaccine-preventable diseases face critical threats.

Grounded in reduced humanitarian access, 73 UN workers remain detained by Houthi authorities, impeding relief operations. Despite these hurdles, UN agencies reached 3.4 million individuals with food assistance in late 2025. Nevertheless, Ramesh Rajasingham from OCHA stated, “These gains are fragile,” highlighting the urgent need for sustainable humanitarian efforts.
