Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), announced that the agency has 4,000 trucks filled with humanitarian aid, half of which carry essential food and flour, ready to enter the Gaza Strip.
In a statement posted on the X platform, Lazzarini reaffirmed UNRWA’s commitment to continuing its operations in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank, despite the upcoming Israeli-imposed ban on its activities, which is set to take effect on January 30, 2025. He stressed that UNRWA remains the only agency capable of providing critical health and educational services in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Rik Peeperkorn, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the occupied Palestinian territories, stated that WHO plans to deploy an unspecified number of field hospitals in the coming two months to support Gaza’s overwhelmed healthcare system.
