Today, the UN Security Council is holding consultations regarding the UN mission that monitors the ceasefire between Syria and Israel, specifically the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

Established in 1974, UNDOF was tasked with maintaining the ceasefire and creating a buffer zone in the Golan Heights. Despite this, no country, with the exception of the United States under President Donald Trump in 2019, recognizes Israel’s occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights.
